Why Christian Education?

Why Christian Education?

Some may say “I am not going to be a preacher, so I don’t need to go to Bible school.” Others may say “I am born again and have the Bible. I don’t need anything else.” Are they right or wrong? Let’s look at a couple of examples from Scripture:

Daniel 1:4
“…Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.”

Before these men could stand before the king (Nebuchadnezzar), they had to learn how to function and communicate in the new ways of that kingdom. Please remember, these men had already been singled out and selected for their wisdom and knowledge. They already had the Torah, God’s Word. They were already God’s people. The thing they lacked was training! This training was not optional, and it lasted three years. In the New Testament, Saul was already at the top of his field. He was a Pharisee’s Pharisee. He had a very impressive resume!

Immediately after his conversion, Saul went into the wilderness of Arabia to be instructed in the ways of the Kingdom of God. This training was conducted by the Lord Jesus Himself (Gal. 1:16). What was the result of this training? Saul began to preach the gospel “boldly in the name of Jesus” (Acts 9:27). Power and boldness come from training in God’s Word. Saul’s training was crucial before he could be sent forth to fulfill his purpose on the Earth. We are no different. Saul, later renamed the Apostle Paul, went on to pen nearly 2/3 of the New Testament!

Christian education is not optional, dear ones! Secular education prepares the student for the world. Christ-centered education like KLI provides prepares the student for eternity. Like Saul, we will be unable to fulfill the reason for our being on the earth without this training. Before we can stand before men to represent the King of kings, we need to be trained in the language of the Kingdom. Kingdom language and ways of doing things are not the same as those of the earth! Christian training is not optional!
